Akkalkot, a holy town in Solapur district of Maharashtra, can be visited any time of the year. However, choosing the right month for your pilgrimage can dramatically affect your comfort, the crowds you encounter, and whether you witness any of the special festivals celebrated at Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj Temple. This month-by-month guide is based on verified climate data and the official 2026 Hindu festival calendar.

    Quick Recommendation

October to February is the most pleasant time to visit Akkalkot weather-wise. July (Gurupurnima -- July 29, 2026) and December (Datta Jayanti -- December 23, 2026) are the most spiritually significant times but come with massive crowds.

    Akkalkot Climate at a Glance

Akkalkot has a subtropical steppe climate -- hot year-round with a muggy wet season and a mostly clear dry season. Verified climate data:

    • Yearly average temperature: ~30°C (86°F)
    • Annual temperature range: 17°C to 39°C (63°F to 103°F)
    • Annual precipitation: ~106 mm
    • Rainy days per year: ~115 days (~31% of the year)
    • Hottest month: May (38-42°C peak)
    • Coolest month: December-January (12-15°C nights)

    Month-by-Month Guide

January - Excellent (Cool & Calm)

Day temperatures: 18-28°C, with cool nights around 12-15°C. Perfect for darshan and exploring nearby spots. Crowds are moderate after the New Year rush. Highly recommended for first-time visitors and elderly pilgrims. Carry light woolens for early mornings.

    February - Excellent (Pleasant)

Day temperatures: 20-30°C. Continues the good weather of January. Less crowded than December-January, making it an ideal time for a peaceful pilgrimage. Maha Shivaratri usually falls in February or early March -- a good time for combined Shiva and Swami Samarth darshan.

March - Good (Warming Up + RAM NAVAMI)

Day temperatures: 24-35°C. The weather starts warming up. Ram Navami 2026 falls on Thursday, March 26 with the Madhyahna Muhurat from 11:13 AM to 1:41 PM. If you want to experience this festival at Akkalkot, plan a visit in late March -- but expect heavy crowds.

    April - Hot (Punyatithi Crowds)

Day temperatures: 28-38°C. Increasingly hot, especially mid-day. Carry a hat and stay hydrated. Akkalkot Swami Samarth Punyatithi (death anniversary) falls in late April (April 30 in the Gregorian calendar). Special prayers and remembrance ceremonies attract many devotees.

May - Very Hot (Avoid if Possible)

Day temperatures: 30-42°C -- the hottest month of the year. Not recommended unless you have a specific reason to visit. Plan darshan only during the early morning slot (5:30-8:00 AM) or late evening (7:00-9:00 PM).

    June - Hot, Pre-Monsoon

Day temperatures: 28-38°C. Pre-monsoon humidity makes it uncomfortable. Some early showers provide relief but unpredictable. Travel can be disrupted by sudden downpours.

July - Monsoon + GURUPURNIMA (Most Crowded)

Day temperatures: 24-32°C. Heavy monsoon season. Gurupurnima 2026 falls on Wednesday, July 29 (Purnima Tithi: July 28, 6:18 PM to July 29, 8:05 PM). This is the biggest festival of the year at Akkalkot. Lakhs of devotees arrive, making it the most crowded period -- but also the most spiritually charged. Book accommodation 2-3 months in advance.

    August - Monsoon (Quieter)

Day temperatures: 23-30°C. Monsoon continues. After the Gurupurnima rush, August offers a quieter alternative for devotees who want to experience monsoon Akkalkot without the festival crowds.

September - Good (End of Monsoon)

Day temperatures: 24-31°C. Monsoon recedes. Temples and surrounding greenery look beautiful after the rains. Crowds are light. A great underrated time to visit.

    October - Excellent (Festive Season)

Day temperatures: 22-32°C. Pleasant weather. Navratri and Dussehra celebrations begin. Akkalkot has a festive ambiance throughout the month. Highly recommended.

    November - Excellent (Peak Pleasant)

Day temperatures: 18-30°C. Some of the best weather of the year. Diwali brings festive decorations to the temple. Moderate crowds.

December - Excellent + DATTA JAYANTI

Day temperatures: 15-28°C. Cool and pleasant. Datta Jayanti 2026 falls on Wednesday, December 23 (Margashirsha Purnima Tithi: Dec 23 10:47 AM to Dec 24 6:57 AM). Datta Jayanti is another major festival drawing large crowds because Swami Samarth Maharaj is considered an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. Year-end holiday travelers also visit, so book accommodation in advance.

Major Festivals at Akkalkot Mandir (2026 Dates)

    Ram Navami - Thursday, March 26, 2026

Lord Rama's birth anniversary. Special abhishek and bhajan-kirtan throughout the day. Madhyahna Muhurat: 11:13 AM - 1:41 PM. Expected crowd: 1-2 lakh devotees.

Akkalkot Swami Samarth Punyatithi - April 30 (annually)

Death anniversary of Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj (he took mahasamadhi on April 30, 1878). Special prayers and remembrance ceremonies. Expected crowd: 1-2 lakh devotees.

    Gurupurnima - Wednesday, July 29, 2026

The most important festival. Marks the day devotees honor their guru (also known as Vyasa Purnima). Special abhishek, palki processions, mahaprasad, and 24-hour darshan. Book 6-8 weeks in advance. Expected crowd: 5+ lakh devotees over 2-3 days.

    Datta Jayanti - Wednesday, December 23, 2026

Birth anniversary of Lord Dattatreya, considered the spiritual root of the Swami Samarth tradition. Special abhishek, bhandara, and night-long bhajans. Expected crowd: 2-3 lakh devotees.

    Maha Shivaratri (February/March)

Important night-long pooja and abhishek. Fewer crowds than Gurupurnima but still significant. Date varies year to year based on Hindu lunar calendar.

    Crowd Calendar Summary

    • Light crowds (recommended for peaceful darshan): September, August, June (mid-month), February
    • Moderate crowds: January, October, November, May
    • Heavy crowds (book early): December (Datta Jayanti, Dec 23), March (Ram Navami, Mar 26), late April (Punyatithi)
    • Very heavy crowds (book 2+ months ahead): July (Gurupurnima, Jul 29)

    Weather Packing Tips

    Winter (Nov-Feb)

Light woolen layers for early mornings and late evenings (temperatures can drop to 12-15°C at night). Day clothing should be light cotton.

    Summer (Mar-Jun)

Light cotton clothing only. Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle. Carry an umbrella for sun protection.

    Monsoon (Jul-Sep)

Quick-dry clothing, umbrella or raincoat, waterproof footwear (slip-on sandals recommended since you'll remove them at the temple), and a small dry bag for valuables.

    Our Top Recommendation

For a balance of pleasant weather, manageable crowds, and the spiritual ambiance, November to early December and late January to February are the best windows to visit Akkalkot. You'll get comfortable temperatures, shorter queues, and a peaceful darshan experience.

If you specifically want to attend a festival, Datta Jayanti on December 23, 2026 is more manageable than Gurupurnima for first-time visitors -- you get the festival atmosphere without the overwhelming Gurupurnima-level crowds.
